American Murder The Family Next Door

 

             I will be reviewing the documentary, The American Murder.

This disturbing documentary unveils the diabolical crimes that Chris Watts committed. Chris Watts was a husband to Shan'ann Watts and a dad of 2 girls Bella and Celeste, which was soon to be 3. In late 2018 Chris Watts would go on to murder his wife and children. Watts received 5 life sentences without the possibility of parole for the inhumane crimes that he committed.  

Breakdown

- Shanann arrives back from a business trip in the early morning and is then reported missing by a work colleague. At this point it is really unsusceptible that her killer is her own husband, no one suspected him. It had also arisen that their two children were also missing 

- Chis knowingly what he had done was trying to convince family and officers that Shanann had fled with the kids. 

- It was discovered that Chris was having an affair in which he had her believe that he was divorced. 

- 3 days after the killings and a long grilling interrogation later, Watts admits to murdering his wife and children. Chris admits he killed his wife so he could be with his mistress.

- Chris strangled his wife after telling her he wanted the marriage to end as she threatened that he wouldn't be able to see his children. 

- He would then go on to smother his 2 children and then continue to dump their bodies into oil tanks 40 miles away from their family home.

 

- Watts was given 5 life sentences for murdering his pregnant wife and his 2 daughters. Shanann's family asked that he did not receive the death penalty.

- Chris continues to say the murders were not premeditated to police but when writing letters, he goes against his claim.

                                                       Review 

This heart-breaking true crime story includes a lot of first-hand information such as social media posts, pictures, videos, interviews, and camera footage. By having all of this and having it in one documentary rather than multiple parts it is a quick watch but still contains a lot of details about this tragic story.
