Night Stalker

I will be reviewing the series on Netflix, the Night Stalker.

The Night Stalker on Netflix is based on the true crimes committed by Richard Ramirez. This series contains interviews, statements, and views from affected parties. (police officers, victims etc.) It also captures original photography and graphic images. Richard Ramirez was originally from El Paso, Mexico, and moved to California in his later years.  Ramirez's crimes consist of; 13 counts of murder, 5 attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults, and 14 charges of burglary. He committed his crimes all of his crimes between the years 1984-1985.

                                                    Breakdown

- The series captures the facade that America had in the 80s with the murders and violence that was happening.

- He gained the unofficial name of ' the night stalker' by committing his crimes only at night.

- The four-part documentary starts with an investigation starting on a series of murders, rapes, and kidnappings that were happening in California. Unknowns to the police it was Richard Ramirez committing these crimes.

- Police were still baffled by these home invasions and murders in the California area but one clue gives Ramirez away. When leaving two of his crime scenes, he left his footprint. This ultimately is what leads him to get caught by the police.

-   Police tracked down the shoe that was left at the crime scene, there was only one size of these shoes sold in LA which helped to track him down.

- However, it was not the police that caught him but the public. Members of the public in LA recognized him from police sketches. They then continued to strike him and hold him captive until the police arrived.

- After serving 23 years out of his life sentence Ramirez died of cancer in 2013.

                                                    Review

The documentary is more so focused on the officers in the case and their perspective on it which gives a different angle and narrative as it is first-hand stories. However, the series is rather graphic, containing original crime scene pictures that are more than gory. This series isn't for the faint-hearted.
